Brown or Black residue on cloth or wax padUpdated a year ago
Hey folks, Eric here from Virginia Boys Kitchens! Noticed some black or brown residue on your wax buffer after oiling and waxing your black walnut board? Let me put your mind at ease—it’s completely natural and nothing to worry about.
It’s All Natural First off, remember, we don’t use any stains or artificial colors on our boards. What you’re seeing is just the real deal wood in action. When you wax a dark wood like black walnut, it’s pretty common for the wax to pick up some natural particles and oils from the wood's surface. Sometimes, even a bit of dust or debris that was hanging around can get scooped up.
Why Does It Happen? Black walnut has natural pigments and oils that can transfer to your wax buffer during the waxing process. This can cause your buffer to show a dark discoloration. Think of it as a sign that you’re really getting into the grain and giving your board the thorough protection it deserves.
No Cause for Alarm This dark residue isn’t harmful at all—it’s actually a good indicator that the wax is doing exactly what it should be: protecting and enhancing your board’s appearance. If it bugs you, just give your wax buffer a good cleaning now and then to get rid of any buildup.
So keep on oiling and waxing with confidence. It’s all part of the process of keeping your black walnut board looking beautiful and working great for all your chopping and slicing needs.
Keep up the great work, Eric
